The big game is coming at us in a week. And as America is so adept at doing, new dimensions of one event have been found to broaden its appeal and widen the tent for our extensive range of tastes. The football battle is still there, featuring the perennial appearance by the Patriots. The LA Rams are their new dancing partner this year. And you never know what can happen – remember Nick Foles and the Philly Eagles one short year ago?
Then there’s the musical halftime show that’s become a must-watch event for many fans (or must-not-watch for others.) Maroon Five takes the stage this year at Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Supporting acts include Travis Scott, a Houston-based rapper, and Atlanta’s own Big Boi of Outkast fame.A third element of the spectacle for those watching at home is the television commercials that highlight favorite brands and the occasional new kid to the block. Since we’re interested in all things marketing, Steven James Media Group dug up a few sneak peeks at the ads you can expect on Sunday.Companies have been posting teasers on various platforms. Doritos is going for a strong pairing with Backstreet Boys (not really boys anymore) and Chance the Rapper in a commercial. M&Ms is back with one of their annual offerings, this time featuring Christina Applegate. The King of Beers and The King of Superbowl Commercials, Budweiser, is back with an environmentally-conscious piece promoting wind power played against Dylan’s ‘Blowin’ In The Wind.’ While we’re glad it’s for an important environmental initiative, using such an iconic song in a beer commercial may leave some feeling raw and wind-whipped. A new kid to the game this year is Olay. It brings its #KillerSkin campaign to the broadcast. Sarah Michelle Gellar, known for her scream queen horror flick roles, will take on a masked killer in this one.
Like them or not, you can’t deny the advertisers don’t pay for the privilege. A 30-second spot comes in at a cool $5 million. That’s enough to make anybody a scream queen! And speaking of screaming, give Steven James a shout when it’s time to market your business or organization! Check out our services here! Enjoy the game, the halftime show, and the commercials!
