A Time for Re-prioritization and Re-positioning

The first quarter of the year presents a prime opportunity to evaluate and refine the foundational elements of your business. It’s a season to reset priorities, reposition strategies, and ensure that your company is aligned for success in the months ahead. The 4Ps (Personnel, Products, Processes, Policies) are critical areas to assess during this period.

Made up of professionals with origins across a number of sectors and institutional sizes, Steven James Media Group is adept at applying these evaluations internally, and we customarily consult with our clients as an added value to whatever other services we provide in the video production, content creation, branding, or multi-media arena.

Personnel

Is your personnel being maximized? Are the right people in the right positions, and are their roles aligned with their skills and the company's objectives? Start by reviewing your organizational structure and considering whether the allocation of talent supports your strategic goals. Ask yourself:

  • Are there employees who demonstrate potential or expertise that could be better utilized in different roles?
  • Do team members have the resources, training, and support necessary to excel?
  • Are there any gaps in skills or leadership that need to be addressed to ensure future growth?

Observing performance and soliciting feedback from your team can provide invaluable insights into whether your workforce is optimally positioned. This might mean realigning responsibilities, creating opportunities for professional development, or even making difficult decisions to adjust team composition.

Products & Services

Are your products and services meeting current market demands and remaining competitive? Conduct a thorough evaluation of your offerings to determine if they are still viable, relevant, and valuable to your customers. Reflect on the following:

  • Have there been shifts in customer preferences or market trends that impact demand for your offerings?
  • Are your products or services differentiated enough to maintain a competitive edge?
  • Do customer feedback or sales data highlight areas for improvement, innovation, or discontinuation?

Engage in a detailed analysis of performance metrics, customer reviews, and industry forecasts to uncover opportunities for refinement or new initiatives. This can help ensure that your portfolio not only meets today’s needs but is also positioned to capitalize on future opportunities.

Processes & Procedures

Are your processes & procedures providing thrust or creating drag? Are you able to complete your business cycle from initial inquiry to delivery – and payment to your coffers – in the most efficient and robust way? Is your entire operation set up so you are not only retaining current customers but creating ones who serve as your BRAND AMBASSADORS? Are they so enamored with your customer service, your process, your products or services that they can’t wait to share the information with friends and family or to their online social media communities?

The truth is that when people genuinely feel strongly about a company, they take joy in sharing it with others. They know that they are providing something of value to those they may care about, or they are helping a company for whom they hold a real affinity. Think about it. It’s a great feeling (and a positive reflection upon your judgment and business savvy) when somebody who you’ve made a recommendation or referral to comes back and shares that they are thrilled with the advice you provided. Ultimately, creating brand ambassadors should be the goal of every company, agency, service provider, restaurant, or entertainment venue serving the public.

Policies

And, finally, Q1 is ideal to review and refine any of your organizational policies, whether they are related to human resources, reinvestment strategies, safety and health regulations, communication protocols or more. Even when a policy is found to be solid and sufficient, one thing companies must remember to do periodically – be they sole proprietorships, partnerships, or corporations – is to be certain that all employees are aware of policies.

Even if policies are tweaked and remain intact from previous years, it never hurts to offer refreshers. Employees may forget policies that they haven’t engaged with in recent times, and newer hires may have been so focused on learning the hands-on aspects of their jobs that important policies (even though explained at orientations) may have not been fully absorbed with all the other information they were processing.

Q1 is upon us. Use it to re-prioritize and re-position your personnel, products, processes, and policies as needed to set the stage for a year of strong performance and strategic growth. Steven James Media Group is here to help.
